1996 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Sydney Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley
From the first aroma to the long finish, this wine is a quiet jewel. The ’96 vintage was overshadowed by the bold wines of the following year, yet like so many ’96 wines, this Cab has style and finesse. Smooth, rich flavors of cassis, vanilla, cherry, toasty oak and a hint of dark chocolate overlay a touch of cedar, tar and minerals. This wine reflects the hillside terroir that produces outstanding Cab grapes year after year. It has a structure built to last, yet when the wine reveals itself, a silky, smooth texture brings forth a host of flavors, including a long finishes that leaves you both satisfied and wanting more.
